System Management Methods
System Management of OpenVMS is more than just knowing and
using a bunch of DCL commands and system management utilities.
An OpenVMS system manager executes the commands or uses utilities
for a purpose; to maintain and improve user access to services
on the computer. Knowing DCL well will help, but DCL alone
will not do the job. The effective system manager needs to
know how to prepare and maintain the OpenVMS system to maximize
user access to computer services. This course teaches the
student-system-manager some of the techniques for maximizing
the availability of computer services available to users.
The student accounts on the CCSS Interactive Learning lab
systems are live, fully privileged, OpenVMS environments to
allow the student to develop their skills and practice their
techniques.
Some topics covered are:
- Identifying computer management
objectives
- Managing users and user accounts
- Managing disks and data

maintenance
