DCL for Operators
This course teaches the specialized
group of DCL commands used primarily by operators and system
managers.
An operator is an Information Systems
specialist who focuses on everyday support of the OpenVMS
data processing, hardware and system activities including
servicing of printers, tapes, terminals, disk or file backup/restore,
print queues, batch queues, user authorization and file quotas
and user related problem solving.
Operators and system managers use
DCL commands for their jobs that aren't needed by most other
OpenVMS users. In this course, the student-operator's account
on our OpenVMS lab systems will be given the privileges required
to allow the commands to properly function. The student will
be allowed to try out the commands and manage a real system.
Topics covered include:
The OpenVMS layout for operators
including a description of:
- OpenVMS clusters
- Disks
- Directories
- Logical names
- Symbols
- and how these features are used.
Techniques in the proper creation
of user accounts and directories and copying files for users.
Additional information will be presented
for:
- Broadcasting messages to users
- Setting the number of logins
- Batch
queue commands and control
- Print
queue commands and control
- Magnetic
Tape subsystem
- MOUNT command (disk and tape subsystems)
OBJECTIVE:
Develop the basic skills necessary to use aspects of DCL
appropriate for operation of an OpenVMS environment on a day
to day basis to perform business functions.

of DCL useful in the operation and management of OpenVMS;
new operators, operators with experience on other systems,
