Introduction to OpenVMS Editors

This course provides the student with an introduction to text processing in an OpenVMS environment. The student is taught the use of the Extensible Versatile Editor (EVE). The student is also introduced to the existance of other OpenVMS editors and is taught how to identify them and assure themselves that they are using the editor of their choice.

The student is introduced to:

  • EVE versus EDT
  • Create a text file with EVE
  • Editting the LOGIN.COM file
  • Testing EVE setup
  • F16, The DO Key
  • EXIT and QUIT

  • HELP for EVE & EDT
  • Keypad Commands

  • FIND
  • REPLACE
  • SPAWN to DCL
  • INCLUDE FILE
  • Using EVE in MAIL

OBJECTIVE:

Develop the basic skills necessary to use the OpenVMS EVE editor on a day to day basis to perform business functions.

Anyone who has no knowledge of OpenVMS editors and needs to develop proficiency quickly.
